IAN MARTENS

there’s a buzz goin’ ‘round

Ian Martens’ debut indie project "there’s a buzz goin’ ‘round" is a colorful blend of classic rock with a modern edge, tinged with the blues - the product of years of self-evaluation, guitar mastery and change.

Ian hails from Saskatoon, Sk. where he has paid his dues playing everywhere from clubs to prisons to coffee shops to churches to youth camps since the mid 80’s. Over the years, Ian’s songwriting has evolved into what has become insightful, introspective, and sometimes spiritual musings. In 1990, Ian embarked on a musical journey after a powerful spiritual conversion. "there’s a buzz goin’ ‘round" is the aftermath of that journey’s effect.

Stunning and vast in musical approach, "there’s a buzz goin’ ‘round" offers us a small taste of who Ian Martens is. Baring his soul with southern-esque vocal quality, tag-teamed with layers of acoustic and electric guitars, grounded bass lines, bluesy harmonica and steady drumming, this is more than a “flavour-of-the-month” offering. Ian handles all the instruments on this record with the exception of drums and harmonica. He has been compared with the likes of Guardian, Third Day, Lenny Kravitz, Led Zep and Canada’s Big Sugar.

Ian has been receiving positive press from the likes of indie-zines such as The Black and White, who lovingly labels Ian’s styling to that of a Canadian version of enhanced Americana. Lately, "there’s a buzz goin’ ‘round" has received local airplay. Adult-accessible rock laced with plenty of organic vibe. Ian can often be heard playing local Saskatoon coffee houses, clubs and other venues.
